Hospitals abroad can quote lower prices for some operations, such as joint replacements, cardiac surgery or cosmetic procedures. The headline price is only part of the total.
Add these costs before you compare
- Return flights for you and a companion
- Accommodation before and after treatment, often for one to three weeks
- Visas, travel insurance and local transport
- Time off work for you and the person travelling with you
- Follow-up care and physiotherapy once you are home
Questions to ask the hospital abroad
- Exactly what the package includes, and what happens if you need extra nights
- Who looks after complications once you are back in Kenya
- Whether your records and scans will be shared with your doctor at home
For some procedures, a Kenyan hospital with SHA or insurance cover ends up cheaper. Get quotes for both and compare the full totals.
