Common questions
Who can be a kidney donor abroad?
Most countries only allow a living donor who is a close relative, and the hospital's committee checks the relationship. Paying an unrelated donor is illegal. Ask each hospital exactly which documents they need before you travel.
How long do I need to stay?
Usually four to six weeks, including tests before surgery and check-ups after. The donor can often go home sooner.
What happens with medicines when I come home?
You will take anti-rejection medicines for life. Check that you can get them in Kenya and what they cost before you travel.
